As we celebrate 17 years of Mondo we look at how marketing and PR have evolved since 2007

This September, Mondo Marketing is proudly celebrating 17 years of helping brands stand out! That’s right, since 2007 we’ve been riding the marketing and PR rollercoaster, adapting, innovating and sometimes looking back in amazement at just how much the industry has changed.   To honour this milestone, we’re taking a fun look at how marketing and PR have evolved over the past 17 years. Think of it as a “then vs. now” showdown - because let’s face it, the marketing world of 2007 was like comparing a flip phone to today’s smartphone. So grab a cuppa, sit back and join us on this trip through marketing memory lane!   2007 vs. 2024: A Marketing and PR transformation 1. Social Media: The Baby vs. The Giant 2007: “Wait, what’s Twitter?” In 2007, social media was still finding its...

How to design a great logo

A logo is an image, text, shapes or a combination of all three that portray the name and purpose of a business.   Your logo design is important for a number of reasons. It helps you create a brand identity – a symbol through which people can better remember you and even distinguish you from your competitors.   By making a great first impression with your logo you can encourage an emotional connection with your target audience and even foster brand loyalty. A logo can and should be more than a symbol of identification. If designed well it also tells a company’s story.   Things to think about when designing a logo   Think of your audience. The best logos aren’t the flashiest. The best logos are those that appeal to their target audience. To give you an...

Using WordPress themes – the (Word) pressing facts

May 2023 will be the 20 year anniversary of the initial release of WordPress. Today, the open source content management system is very different to the basic blog tool that it started out as and it is used by many developers and marketing agencies as the platform for building websites.   Our very own Mondo developers, despite being naturals at writing their own code, are big fans of WordPress and use it as the starting point for nearly all of our website projects. This is down to a few reasons – as you’ll find out if you read on!   WordPress themes vs custom website design There are two main ways that you can build a website using WordPress as your platform. These are either by developing a completely bespoke WordPress site or instead, using...

Blogs…are they dead or alive?

A very quick answer to the above would be that we hope that blogs are still very much alive – otherwise why are we writing this particular one?   The fact that it’s here shows that blog articles should still be considered as an important element of any marketing plan. That said, while we champion the use of them we’re fully aware that in recent times the very nature of how they are used has evolved.   Whereas in the past a blog would most likely be a standalone item most are now integrated into a main website. Individual blog articles now take the form of advanced web pages and, in addition to text, easily showcase images, infographics, videos and other types of interactive content.   Why we love blogs We personally love a blog because their...

Branding mishap

Smile – you’re on branding mishap of the day!

This email (shown above), recently received from a dental and aesthetic services company, is a great reminder of why it’s a good idea to have some professional help when it comes to branding for your business.   Did someone think that because they heard a photographer chanting “Say cheese” we must all aspire to have teeth resembling coagulated milk products in order to attain the ultimate smile?   Yes, this is clearly from overseas, but it highlights perfectly why it’s essential to know your market.  A good marketing partner will work as we do at Mondo, helping clients understand how demographic attributes such as location, age, and even industry type can inform the creation of effective branding and messaging.   Carefully considering the appropriateness and implications of how you portray your brand is every bit as...

The one where we ask if you need a marketing agency at all!

We’re well aware that there are a number of marketing people and companies out there, all trying to grab your attention by promising you that they’ll drive customers your way or guarantee to sit you at the top of Google. Well I don’t like to be the bearer of bad news… but they’re talking nonsense!   Good marketing takes time, consistency and plenty of hard work. Success doesn’t happen overnight as unfortunately there’s no one-size-fits-all plan that will work for every business or organisation.   So with so many options out there (some of which might be bad options!) how do you go about choosing the right person to help you achieve your marketing goals? How do you know who to trust? What should you be looking out for when searching for marketing help?...

Why infographics are an excellent tool for visual communication

Before we dive straight into why an infographic is a valuable tool for presenting information to your audiences, it is important to understand what an infographic is.   The word itself is a portmanteau of the words ‘information’ and ‘graphic’. The Oxford English Dictionary, widely regarded as the world’s most authoritative sources on current English, includes ‘infographic’ and defines it as “a visual representation of information or data, e.g. as a chart or diagram.”   This definition however misses out a key point – that the collection of imagery, charts and minimal text should give an easy-to-understand overview of a topic. It should use striking, engaging visuals to grab our attention and communicate information quickly and clearly. A good infographic is worth a thousand words.   So why might you want to use infographics? When creating an...

Why pro snaps get more clicks…and other reasons it pays to commission professional photography

It may be a boring cliché that a picture paints a thousand words but it gets more exciting for marketers when you consider that the right picture can increase dramatically the number of clicks for a digital campaign or heighten impact and recall when seen in traditional media.   Beyond enhancing individual campaign effectiveness through stunning visuals, professional photography offers a host of additional benefits to marketers - but more of that later.   First, let’s focus on why image is everything in marketing. Every visual representation of your business, products and services creates your brand – the very essence that dictates how potential customers feel about buying from you or working with you.   Yes, there’s a seemingly limitless supply of stock images available through photo libraries but how often have you ended up settling...

Signs of a safe recovery – show workers and customers the way forward

Slowly, it appears that the recent lockdown is starting to see some relaxations. Whilst we’re all glad to have a little more freedom, the key reason for these moves by the Government is that they want to see businesses and organisations begin to re-open and the economy enter the road to recovery.    Central to this being successful, however, is places re-opening safely – minimising any risk to customers, staff and any other people who may come into contact with others in the workplace setting. For weeks now the importance of social distancing has been drilled into us along with hygiene practices such as washing our hands but to keep people focused it is vital that there are visual reminders.  These need to be located not just at contact points but all around offices, shops and then hopefully further down the line hospitality and visitor attraction venues.     We’ve already been asked to help...

Working our way through the Coronavirus

In addition to the dangers to health, the Coronavirus is also presenting real dangers to businesses of all sizes. It is clear that many businesses and organisations won’t be able to survive if their trade stops for as long as some experts are predicting.   We are heartened however to see that some of those that we work with and/or follow are already coming up with creative and flexible solutions to try and keep some custom flowing. Just this morning we’ve seen a pub introduce a takeaway menu and a car showroom start offering a home viewing service.   It got us thinking. How can we help? As marketing people ideas are our thing and we’re pretty good at brainstorming and suggesting alternative ways to do things in order to generate awareness and footfall....
